Vauxhall Astra Diesel Pump Problem - Astra Man
The fuel pump has just gone on my Vx Astra 2.0 DTI (Y20DTH) - 2001.

Cost of replacement is £1300 for a reconditioned unit, the main dealer price
for a brand new unit was twice this !

On speaking to a local injection specialist they tell me they see TEN of
these a week and at any time keep TWENTY of these pumps in stock
!!!!!

Car had done 40,000 miles.

Don't tell you these things when you buy em do they !

Then add in the £700 cost of repacing a PSA Hdi Euro 4 engine's particulate filter at the 72000 mile servicing!

So that's another thing to add to my list of reasons for not buying a diesel.

Having had many diesel tractors and combines, 3 diesel cars and 2 diesel Landrovers, I have never had to replace a fuel pump.

I insist that diesels are more reliable than petrols, and with modern diesels they also go plenty fast enough.

If it was my Astra I would get some more quotes, or get it repaired at a specialist diesel place.
