Will the required spec of my daughter's new Volkswagen Golf affect its residual value? 5 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
My 23-year-old daughter is about to place an order for a car, and she'd like something economical but sporty and young looking. Her current choice is a... -

Life in the fast lane could be expensive 11 Feb 2004 (Forum)
It's in line with the greed and hostility of Government advisers in their approach to the use of speed cameras. "They're largely a bunch of left-wing academics who think driving is an abuse like drinking or drug use and seem set on making driving an unpleasant experience." The idea is being investigated by Tony Blair's Strategy Unit, which draws up future policies. -
'Death Trap' 22 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I'd love to see an improvement in drivers attitudes to others, and a bit more thinking rather than just doing when driving. I can't see this happening if we are all conditioned into thinking not being caught by speed cameras makes us safe. One of my mates berated me for saying I enjoyed driving quickly and then drove us along a motorway about 3 foot from the back of cars in front, sitting at exactly 70mph - he'd been caught on camera a few months earlier so knew all about safe driving due to the educational effect of 3 points and a £40 fine. -
Honda Civic - TfL red lines stopping - are there any exemptions? 14 Sep 2022 (Forum)
8i8192 There was no signage eg "no stopping at anytime" to accompany it. I can't see any cameras according to streetview, can anyone here see any? Are there any exceptions to this? Honestly if I am fined £80 I will be gutted because I've literally spent 9 hours working today driving around so it will have all been for nothing if done for that. -
Aygo review 23 Mar 2022 (Forum)
This one had everything I could possibly need, air con, climate, dab radio, Bluetooth, Android pairing , reversing camera etc etc. The 3 cylinder engine pulled nicely, with a very agreeable sporty sound, nice slick gearbox, well damped ride, decent handling, safe rather than ultimately sporty. But a lot of fun. At speed, nice and refined, quieter than our focus, easily held 70mph, absolutely fine .Fuel consumption was amazing, a mixture of town, A roads, motorway gave an indicated 60mpg without really trying! -
Vauxhall Grandland - Intellilux LED Headlights 7 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Going back to my halogen lights will be a shock… I don’t have the Illumination Pack on this one - that offers infrared vision via a camera in the grille displayed on the dash, but it’d be useful if you lived in a more rural area. -
Possible ban due to speeding points 19 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Hi all….I got 3 points last October for speeding which are now applied to my license, but in the last few months I got caught speeding 3 more times on the same camera due to taking a divert to work to avoid traffic. I have admitted to being the driver to them all and have so far received 2 replies offering option 1 = £100 fine and 3 points for each or option 2 = request court hearing……..if I choose option 1 for both then that will will put me on 9 points. -
Honda CR-V Hybrid - our new motor 26 Jul 2019 (Forum)
SWMBO hadn't completely got to grips with the old one, so this will be a steep learning curve for her, although to be fair it can be left in what in camera terms would be point-and-shoot mode. So far we're just 'driving' it, with no specific attempt at getting the most economy, most performance etc. from it. It seems to suit the style of the car. -
Volkswagen Touareg - Bit of a panic on! Help!! 25 Mar 2019 (Forum)
My wife has been caught speeding 58 in a 40 zone by camera! The Notice of intention to prosecute was sent to her company with a request for driver information. She shown it her friend at a law firm who said the notice was over 14 days and therefore it may mean there's a chance it could be voided so the law firm on her behalf sent a letter to the Central Ticket Office manager explaining this as per standard template letter asking for the matter to be dropped. -
Hyundai Tucson - Advice please first big purchase 5 Mar 2019 (Forum)
We compromised and decided to look for a tucson but diesel version with some toys on it (reverse camera, sat nav, touchscreen infotainment system). Budget 12-15k. At least 2 years manufactures warranty left on the car. Ideally I'd like to keep it for as long as I can really so it needs to have a reliable engine and not too bad on fuel, but understand I won't get the greatest mpg from an suv. -
Driving ban, totting up to 12 points 20 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I drive for a living and have reached 12 points on my licence. I had 3 points in December 2006 for doing something like 38 in a 30 and got caught by a camera, totally bang to rights I know. Now in the last 12 months I've recieved a further 9, 3 for doing 36 in a 30, 3 for doing 39 in a 30 and 3 for using my mobile phone, I need to add that I was using the phone while the car was stationary at traffic lights and I didnt actually think I'd broke the law. -
Idiot drives wrong way around roundabout 17 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I put my hazards on and, this was adajcent to the next exit, exited that when it was safe. There were no traffic cameras but I'm worried sick that I'm going to be prosecuted. What would the likely penalty be? I'm concerned that the truck driver would have sent a dashcam video to the police -

Any - Epic levels of congestion 29 Jan 2015 (Forum)
For example the A1 Western Bypass is simply a mess now, due to the appallingly badly planned and implented roadworks which wil be around for years and years. On top of this the vindictive highways agency have just added a further 6 mile stretch of cash camera controlled roadworks that end about 200 yards before the A1 roadworks start! The net effect of this is now the other major routes are nearly blocked, the A19 and tyne tunnel are now worse than they were 5 years ago. -
BMW 530D SE TOURING or AUDI A6 Avant 3.0 Quatro - The agony of choice 21 Dec 2014 (Forum)
My dilemma is, I have identified and driven a BMW 530D SE Touring which is great. Extras include Pro Sat nav, Sports gearbox and steering wheel, Head up display, Rear camera, Comfort seats etc on a 2010 60 plate 47,000 miles. My one reservation was the 19" alloys as I have damage to my spine. However, the dealer has agreed to change them to 18" wheels and throw in an extra years warranty. -
Honda Jazz - Accident whilst teaching uninsured friend to drive 5 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Our car is more severely damaged, several panels severly dented, back drivers side lights smashed, possible exhaust damage. There are cameras on the outside of the building, don;t know if they work or if they captured the accident. I was wondering what the best advice would be? Should my wife go to the company in the morning and inform them about the accident.
