  Over the years, the race included both sports and saloon cars, although in later years it ran FIA GpN cars running in the National Saloon Car Cup, which was run by the BRSCC. Thurgood, himself a veteran of the first three Willhire events, is upbeat about the project: "Over the past year or so, quite a few people have contacted me wanting information on cars that ran in the Willhire - often to help them identify cars that may have run in any one of the fifteen 24-hour events.

  It has 270,000 miles on the clock, by which time most other cars would be well and truly dead, but with the 3.0-litre diesel engine so beloved of German taxi drivers under the bonnet, it’s actually hardly run in.  It’s not without its blemishes – the bumpers are scuffed and it has the usual W124 rusty wings (replacement panels are £40 as pattern parts) and the driver’s seat has some wear, but at £995 it’s hardly expensive for one of the truly great Mercs of its era, while the Malachite Green paint is one of the best colours they came in.

  Huge Hoard of '60s and '70s American Classics Found Tucked Away in Thailand 4 Jun 2016 (News)
  More than 100 non-running 1960s and 1970s American Cruisers have been found stored in custom built open sheds in Thailand, near Bangkok. Mostly GM, some Lincolns, didn't see a single MoPar. From what I can gather, a collector has been picking them up from the streets for the past 30 years or so, then storing them reasonably sympathetically.

  CV Show 2016: Citroen to unveil updated Berlingo 25 Feb 2016 (News)
  The Berlingo was launched in 2008, but Citroen says the 2016 updates will make its best-selling van cheaper to run and more comfortable, with improvements to standard equipment.  The all-Euro6 diesel engine line-up includes a new 75PS 1.6-litre BlueHDi, offered alongside the familiar 100PS and 120PS 1.6 variants.

  Nissan says it costs just two pence per mile to run and can cover 106 miles on a single charge. Usefully the battery can be charged from zero to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes. Nissan has also introduced a new Evalia version as a top of the range model.

  Back in 1911, the car was one of two built by Fiat for a land speed record attempt. It managed to clock 135mph – the fastest time – but failed to make a return run in time to make the record official.

  Anglia Car Auctions to sell Jeremy Clarkson's Jag 9 Aug 2013 (News)
  A 1999 Jaguar XJR once run by Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame is to go under the hammer at Anglia Car Auctions, King's Lynn as part of its classic sale on Saturday 24th August.  Anglia Car Auctions has a history with Top Gear because 4 years ago Carkson, Hammond and May used the auction house to source three classics for a rally challenge featured on the programme.

  Great Wall is offering a 120,000 mile/six-year warranty on its Steed pick-up. The only catch is that it's a special off that will run out at the end of June rather than a permanent deal. The extended six-year warranty comprises the three year/60,000 mile manufacturer warranty plus a further three year/125,000 mile powertrain extended warranty provided by Great Motor Distributors (UK) Limited.

  Ford unveils 2018 Transit Custom with lower running costs and hybrid tech 18 Jul 2017 (News)
  .  From 2019, the Transit Custom will be available as a plug-in hybrid, allowing the van to run solely on electric power for city trips. Ford hasn't released any details on range or economy for the hybrid, but prototypes are already undergoing testing in London. Prices for the new Transit Custom are still to be confirmed, but expect the range to start at £20,000, excluding VAT, when it reaches UK showrooms in January 2018.
