dealership finance dilemma 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
A few days later we arranged a test drive and she liked the car very much, needless to say we put an order in for one, again it was mentioned about the 50% deposit and 0% interest....I had checked this out myself but could find no such promotion. The finance and other details were to be sorted once the car had arrived so a small deposit was placed. Today the wife recieved a phone call from the dealer to say they had made a mistake and there is no 0% interest, but can offer low interest which would put approx £10 a month on top of the intended monthly payments. -
Outstanding Finance Question 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I have a Renault Laguna 1.9 dCi Privilege Estate. I've had it 2 years and bought it on a 48 month finance deal from Cars 4 Staff (Lloyds Car Select). I was just finishing Uni when I purchased the car, hence the small deposit and 4 year payments. The Laguna is a nice car but we've put miles on it quicker than expected due to a variety of different events and circumstances. -
Recommendations for a family car? 27 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The broad requirements I have are; - Must have 4 doors and a reasonable boot (have a young family). - Diesel definitely preferred. - I'll have around £5k deposit, and would want to finance the rest on a budget of say £350 to 400 / month. - Would prefer a straighforward finance, not leaving a lumpsum at the end. I'd like to own the car, so I guess that means not a lease. - Prefer new, but haven't excluded a 1-2 year old used car, if it's in good nick. -
Renault Clio - Car Written Off - Not my fault 18 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The driver left his details and we have gone through both insurances and he is claiming full blame. We have no gap insurance and the car is on monthly finance payments. We recently found out that the insurers have written the car off and the value is likely going to be less than the finance agreement. Does this mean we are likely going to have to fork out a lump sum to pay the deficit even though it wasn’t our fault? -
Skoda Kodiaq - asking for the impossible 1 Jul 2018 (Forum)
They don't have pricing for them yet so can't proceed. By the time they do have pricing, the finance deal and extra promotion will have ended. Hey ho. -

Ford Fiesta Zetec S 11 Jun 2001 (Forum)
At the moment there's a really good offer on a new Zetec S for £11,000 with £700 off with no part ex or £1500 off for my L reg Ford Escort Diesel with 75,000 miles on the clock, £750 off the finance, free insurance for a year, and low 5.9% finance which sounds good. I like the car, and I know that if I like it and want it, I should go for it, but is it a wise move? Especially with the new model due out? -
Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CTDi (160) SE - Were my parents-in-law charged a fair price 21 May 2012 (Forum)
They were told that it was the car that the MD had been using and that they were being offered it at an "exceptional price" of just short of £20k (£5k deposit, £15k on finance with GMAC). It had done about 9k miles. Two weeks ago my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly. My mother-in-law will never use the car, it's simply too big. We therefore began looking at selling it to pay off the finance, and here is where we've had a bit of a shock. -
Skoda Yeti - Skoda contract hire /HP 3 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Hi all I'm in the process of buying a Yeti from a Skoda dealer, and I was going to use contract hire to keep the cost down util some money appears next year. Skoda, VW finance UK, use the same form for HP & contract hire I strongly advise you read the contract very, very carefully, especially clause 3.1 Care and use of the vehicle. "-not allow the vehicle to be taken outside the United Kingdom without our permission except that you maytake it to any countrywithing the European Union for up to 60 days in any calendar year" I queried this and the dealer rang Skoda finance,AKA VW Finance, underwring as I travel frequently through Switzerland to Italy. -
Ford b max zetec navigator auto - 12 month old Finance car Total loss 7 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Now I was asked to contact ford which I did but I contacted my dealer who said they don’t make ford b max in automatic anymore. Told insurance when they should’ve been contacted ford finance which I confirmed with ford finance.they are going down the total loss route regardless and not offering me a replacement car claiming it’s hit the 12 month mark anyway but I would say at the time of accident it wasn’t? -
Car Finance Query on Interest 28 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'm looking at purchasing a new car and was asked to get a final settlement figure on my current car/loan as it is classed as a Personal Loan (wasn't aware, thought it was a car finance part of Arnold Clark). Where I'm really confused is the interest. Amount borrowed was £12700.88, interest amount £2857.72. Taken over 60 months (so far made 42 payments). -
Car Finance 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)
On the 2nd May 2003, we had a settlement figure for our car finance. We had remortgaged and wanted to pay it off. When the money came through, phoned the company up to check the settlement figure still stood, was told yes, so paid it by debit card over the phone. -
New/used car sales contract. 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
HELP NEEDED! Ive ordered a pre-reg car from a dealer (not the Seat on another thread), and am financing through Motability Finance HP (not the leasing that Motability is known for). The dealer has given me a fixed price for my trade in (Fiat Punto) and I have signed a contract showing this and all the other figures and a deposit of £500 paid. -
Volkswagen Golf mk 6 vs Seat Leon mk 3 30 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I might be able to get a 1.4 13 plate Leon for similar money to a 11 or 12 plate golf. We will probably go for a PCP finance deal (never bought a car on finance before but currently don't have a lump sum in the bank and PCP looks favourable to a personal loan. Question is which car?????? -
When should I sign hire purchase contract? 19 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The hire purchase agreement has a 14 day withdrawal clause. My question is when should the finance hire purchase agreement be signed normally – should I ensure it is not more than 14 days before collection? Much appreciate any advice. -
Ready funds how to get best price/options w dealer 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Would a good spec one year old be a better financial bet - what to watch out for? Either way - how much leverage do ready funds hold over finance - if any? I've seen some substantial freebies that are only available with finance. Not that I'm going that route. How much can I bargain if I don't go for a default spec but want extras and what would be the waiting time be for delivery? -
Ford Focus - 2010 Focus New or Used 29 May 2011 (Forum)
I have been to a couiple of garages and seen new 2010 1.6 zetecs for around £13k with 3 yr warranty, first year tax and roadside assistance included along with 0% finance with a 40% deposit. Used ones appear to be about £8.5k but the finance deals seem to be 10% or more. Taking everying into account the new one would not cost much over 3-5 years, is it worth it? -

Dealer interest rates 12 Mar 2005 (Forum)
After many years of company car driving I'm opting out and looking at buying a nearly-new car over the weekend. I was all set to raid my savings and pay cash but was amazed that the dealers opening offer on finance was at 3.6% flat. Considering that my money (in my wife's name, 20% tax rate) in an Internet account that pays 3.8% after tax, I'm wondering if I'm missing something here?? I know there are some charges involved and the APR is higher than the flat rate but even using the Intelligent Finance ad on this site with APR 6.1% the payments are actually marginally lower. -
Dealers 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I made an offer for the car, subject to RAC vehicle inspection and my own inspection. This was agreed and I contacted RAC. They immediately did an HPI check and found a finance agreement ouitstanding. The local dealer said that this was normal and that they would settle the agreement before selling the car to me. Shouldn't they clear a finance agrement on a car BEFORE they offer it to a customer?
