European driving - INSURANCE 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Do all UK insurance polcies cover the very basic insurance Third party only for driving in the EU? I have looked on various sites on the net and many state that all uk insurance policies must have TPO cover in the EU. http://www.rightquote-car-insurance.co.uk/driving_abroad.html being 1. -
Accidents and AA / RAC cover 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Luckily I've not had these circumstances apply, but I've heard different things from different people and wondered if anyone can give a fairly definitive answer. Basically, will the AA or RAC recover your car if it is rendered immovable in an accident, or unsafe to drive? A friend at work says the only reason he gets cover is for this eventuality, but another friend says that she had to pay for towing and storage costs after an accident. -
Vauxhall Ast - Charge of defective brakes - rubber pedal cover 20 Jul 2018 (Forum)
In January I had an accident. It was pouring rain and my car span when coming off a roundabout. At the time the police said my brake pedal should have had a rubber cover and it did not. I wasn’t aware of this. Today I have received notice that I have been charged for having defective brake - however the report from the police is inaccurate - particularly stating that my foot slipped on the brake when this is not the case and actually I tried to brake and the car just span - I think because of the weather and possible aquaplaining. 1. -
Total Loss Gap Cover 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone had experience of claiming under Total Loss Gap insurance? My car was written off two weeks ago and I took the above cover out when I purchased it. Car cost £7400 in June 2001 and I've been offered £2400 by insurance company (currently being hotly disputed by me!) -
Anything - Dealer or private? 16 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Hi there, I'm looking to buy a used car for £5k (7k at a push). I know nothing about cars so would like your optinion about which of these options to go with: -Manufacturer approved from a main dealer -Local independent dealer (most offer AA covers) -Private With this budget, I wouldn't want to cover for a dealer's profit margin but it will give me a peace of mind. -
Volvo S40 - car change 2 Dec 2012 (Forum)
My Volvo S40 is now nearly 7 years old, and has covered 75K miles. This year it will need a full brake overhaul and 4 new tyres, estimated cost around £1000. As the car is worth less than £4k, I have to decide whether or not to spend the cash and keep it, or change it. -
Am I insured to collect wife's new car? 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I know that such cover is third party only and that the car will ping up on any anpr cameras as uninsured but providing I have my cover note that shows I am covered for other vehicles will I be legal? I dont want to get caught on a technicality. -
MINI Cooper and Cooper S - Insured but no legal cover serious accident 18 Feb 2015 (Forum)
My grandson 19 was hit when he was turning right into side road by a carcoming from behind and overtaking several vehicles. He and his passenger (his Mum) were both seriously injured in accident. Both cars were taken to compound by Police, and are still there 2 months later. Grandson had no legal cover and Insurance say they cannot examine car as it's in Police compound so cannot make him an offer so he can replace the car. -

Breakdown cover for punctures 14 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I own a 7 year old Honda CRZ and when I bought it I paid a rather ludicrous sum to get the manufacturer supplied space saver fittted in the boot well. I don’t have breakdown cover anymore (I had one year as a Honda approved used car) as I thought the car runs with perfect reliability so was ready to chance it. A mate of mine has just posted on Facebook about getting a nail in his tyre on the M25 and as he has a modern Merc with rubber band wheels he had to be recovered off the M25 and then called what turned out to be a good mobile tyre fitter to fit a new tyre. -
BerlingoBerlingo Multispace 1.6Hdi Manual - Rattle/Knock when switching off 3 Nov 2012 (Forum)
The knock isnt there all the time. i.e yesterday it happed every time I turned the engine off, and then it stops altogether, and comes back again. Does anyone have any suggestions of what it could be? The used car expert site, suggests the engine cover, but I have checked this and all appears ok. Wouldnt have thought that this lightweight cover would cause this in any case. I have a slight concern that it may be DMF related? -
Any - Old insurer won't insure! 4 Mar 2014 (Forum)
However, although they can't tell me, I would love to know why they would not cover the change of car. I am pretty much Mr average, driving an average car, in my mid 50's, never made a claim or had a point on my licence in 35 years of driving. What could possibly preclude me from getting cover? -
Driving an unisured car on your Ins. 3 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Is correct you can drive an uninsured car on your Comprehensive policy providing it has an MOT and Tax, and it will only cover third party. Would this also cover fire and theft. A friend who's car is off the road for major repairs, has been offered an uninsured car to use while his is being repaired. -
Using visa for car hire & insurance prot 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I contacted Natwest Visa and they advised me that I am covered. However after some research and an email to Natwest I found this to be incorrect and I'm not covered..thank fully I managed to return the car after 2 months hire without a blemish!!! So ultimately my question is are there any credit cards that do have an isnurance that do cover you in the event that you would have to pay for an excess claim against a car hire made out on your visa card? -
Honda civic 1.4 inspire hatchback 2003 - Wear and Tear, Honda Happiness Guarantee and cover 11 Sep 2012 (Forum)
As a gesture of goodwill we can discount the price to £702.49 and will collect the car from you at no extra cost and leave you a courtesy car to use for a few days. I have the Honda Happiness Guarantee and that lists that Manual gearbox is covered but only if a failure occurs, so what would you do? -
2019 A3 Tfsi - Audi service 15 Jun 2022 (Forum)
I collected my car from the local Audi dealer after its three year service and first MOT. Next day I drove 170 miles to visit relatives and returned today, three days later. On my return I lifted the bonnet to replenish the windscreen washer and check the oil and found that the engine cover was missing and the battery terminal covers were adrift. -
Ford Focus 1.6 auto. - Changing Insurance company 26 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I drive a 2003 Ford focus with under 70000 miles on the clock. Every year the comprehensive insurance cover goes up and last year cost me £410 with breakdown cover, legal expenses cover and admin fee. I assume the car is only worth less than £1000. I am going to try the comparative sites when it is nearly due in January. -
