Long-term car rental? 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking for the cheapest way to get a car for a 3-month period in a foreign country. I'm assuming that the regular rental companies will want at least 300 quid/month? I'm reluctant to buy an old car and resell it when I leave. Chances are some greasy dealer will sell me a 6 year old Hyundai/Toyota for about 4000 quid and only offer me 1500 when I bring it back.... -

Japanese car depreciation 21 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The prices for nearly new ones are ridiculous, they depreciate very slowly. I suppose its because every one wants them. Back in the UK, Japanese cars depreciate quite quickly, a two or three year old accord can be had for buttons because they are generally percieved as boring "old mens cars". So why the big difference? Is the French/Spanish/Italian competition thats available in the UK and not in the US the reason that Japanese cars aren't popular? -

Another Mystery Car 30 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Along similar lines to one of the other current threads. Can anyone inentify the following old car, I have seen two in the last year and they are beautiful, Medium sized sleek cabriolet. Looked at least 25 years old. The ones I saw were pale blue with white detail and a nice browny-orange. And the best clue of all they had Kharma written in diagonal silver letters across the boot. -
What are the pitfalls of buying a nearly-new car? 29 Apr 2020 (Ask HJ)

VW Passat 2013 - Vw passat with 95k @ 18 months old... worth buying 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Its got full history (long life at 20/40/60/80k miles), so suggests it has been well maintained. However, what else should I look for, or should I spend the same money on a 3 year old car with ~60k miles (same price for same spec car) Any thoughts / views welcome. Also - anyone know how often the cambelt needs changing on these? -
Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - unlimited extras but no choice of drivers seat 9 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Other than in BMW/Mercedes, orthopedic seats at a swinging price. Plus i am firmly convinced that too many car designers are now designing cars for WOMEN with short legs therefore a short seat squab. which leaves a goodly portion of my legs unsupported plus why is Volvo about the only manufacturer to recognise that the seat squab need to be tiltable, fore & aft as well as height adjustable Me I still got a good old fashioned big bottomed businessmans seat out of an old Vauxhall Carlton, this bolt into an old 4wd. but man it's still a quare proper comfy seat Grrrr -
Old man saving light bulbs 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Some people's behaviour is just unbelievable at times. On my regular route to work starting at 7am I get to recognise familiar cars and drivers each day. There is one man who every time we stop at lights turns his lights out. Not just headlights - an old world piece of courtesy long since obsolete - but the sidelights as well. Then when we move again he invariably forgets to turn them back on, until a succession of cars have flashed him. -
The Old Crocks run 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I just realised that the Veteran Cars London to Brighton Run is nearly here again - I believe it is first Sunday (7th) in November. For anyone who has not seen it I can recommend it as the best free car show in the world, not just for the old motors on the run but also for the exotica driven by the enthusiasts following the cars.I will guarantee a long list for the 'unusual sightings 'thread A warm coat ,a flask of coffee , some bacon sarnies and stand near any slight upward slope on the A23 and you will have a wonderful day out. -
Car scrappage scheme Vol 1 (Read Only) 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
***** This thread is now closed, please CLICK HERE to go to Volume 2 ***** Hi all SWMBO needs a new car. Her current Micra is 11 years old and we feel it's time to change. We've driven a few cars and she has decided she wants a Fiesta. She favours buying one of the last of the old shape cars but I would prefer her to buy a new shape Fiesta, as it is safer.
