  • Is my keyless Audi A8 particularly susceptible to theft and how can I prevent it? 10 Jun 2012 (Ask HJ)

  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 2006 2.0 Non existent Diagnostics 22 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Not to mention that if he hadn't seen this sticking relay issue before another garage/technician might have started changing the components being reported as faulty on the iDrive, fuel pump etc. Apparently this relay provided power to the ECU, instead of the fault system reporting a no power scenario it reported loads of other stuff and apparently can't store a fault because the ECU has no power. Goodness knows what computer was throwing up all of the iDrive messages then??
  • Corsa C (51 Plate) Easytronic - Vauxhall Corsa C Easytronic Losing Power/Gear 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I did the code check and it came back with P1700 SVS request via CAN B-06 and I've read people suggesting replacing the Crank Shaft Sensor to it being the clutch or gear selector or ECU. I know the age of the car means it just might be the major failure that brings it to an end and it's clearly not worth the £600-£1000 I've seen for replacing the clutch/gears etc, but I read a post today around someone getting ECU issues after a flat battery so as a bit of straw clutch I'm wondering where the disconnection of the battery has done anything?
  • Rough idle on a Peugeot 406 HDI 1 Jan 2012 (Ask HJ)
My 406 hdi has a rough idle. When I rev it up it seems fine - a little misfiring, but soon it hits the turbo and it's OK. It feels almost like it's running...
  • VW Polo 1.2 2002 - Polo failed MOT on high CO 16 Sep 2011 (Forum)
When it went in for its MOT/Service, the garage said they'd put their Bosch reader on it, and said the ECU was occasionally reporting a misreading airflow, which he thought was throwing out the fuel mix, which was confusing the lambda sensor, putting the MIL on. This year, it's failed its MOT. The Hydrocarbons were OK (a little high, but within spec).

  • Oldsworth 3 Apr 2010 (Ask HJ)
All the cars built within the last 10 years seem to look much the same: quite boring except for the classier vehicles. They all seem to need a computer...

  • Vectra 2.0 DTI power problems 24 May 2022 (Forum)
Any experience or ideas out there, would really like to sort it out without the dealer playing guessing games at my expense as i have read in other posts. By the way, no warning lights or ecu fault codes have been recorded, the car has done 130k.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispce 1.5 HDI adblu Feel 2015 - Battery /alternator problems Need Help please! 17 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Still not charging battery. Mechanic baffled? Before I take to a Citroen specialist has anyone had this problem . ECU remapping has been mentioned to solve problem??  Tempted to get another vehicle if this is going to be an unreliable car situation for me as run an emergency pets to vets service and breaking down with battery problems is not an option.
  • Ford Fiesta - Door won't open from outside 26 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I couldn't get it to work properly, and the local agent seemed surprised, but didn't think it was connected to the electronics, where the ECU was replaced under warranty. I didn't want to pay for another one.  A local firm got it to work, after dismantling and reassembling the mechanism, though he didn't find the reason for the failure, but it failed again a few weeks later.
  • Skoda Octavia Estate - In a quandary but a nice one 14 Apr 2019 (Forum)
The value of the C5 is maybe 1500 trade in, so if it blows, no big  deal we "only" lose 1.5k. It does have a fault in its ecu that sometimes disables the CC. But everything else works fine.  So do we keep it till it falls apart/blows up, or trade it in for say an Octavia 1.5 tsi, or something YOU recommend.   We do around 3/4k a year in the C5 thats it, we have an old civic thats a bit old/rough/dirty etc but is our workhorse
  • Any - The death of recycled parts? 24 Oct 2017 (Forum)
If the car is scrapped and the parts removed the unit has a one time access to couple with the car's ECU and hence will fail to work a second time Another example he claims is the Main Dealers difficulty in diagnosing intermittent faults. Apparently the manufacturer requires proof in the way of a print out of a permanent fault before they authorise a repair under warranty.
  • Renault Clio S 1.4l 8v - Wreg Clio turns over but won't start. 5 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I tested each injector in turn and they all work and there is good fuel pressure, I changed the crank sensor but no change. I even tried a different ecu/bcu/key kit and it was no different. Annoyingly the wiring on it doesn't match anything in the Haynes manual so before I begin the tiresome task of checking ALL the engine wiring can anybody help with this problem?
  • Jaguar X-Type 2.0d - Positive Story 22 Feb 2016 (Forum)
We're all used to horror stories and reading HJ too much with accounts of failed DPFs, ECUs, etc. and huge repair bills is enough to give you nightmares and visions of imminent bankruptcy.  So here's a positive story - I think so, anyway. Took the car (2004, 157k) in for service and MoT today to my local trusted indy.
  • Skoda Roomster - VW Recall list 20 Oct 2015 (Forum)
From Wiki I gather they are the same engine, I understand  the blue additive was probably switched off vw models but Roomster does not have this but scr? I would like to know how VW ecu when running cheat mode can get all the NOX past the scr/ dpf, does it also switch off the EGR valve. When running in non cheat mode after recall i.e. after being 'Mullered' will the emissions require endless servicing and at whose cost I would like to see full disclosure of the technical issues reported by motoring press and not be fobbed off by VW reflashing their box leading to lower economy.
