What's wrong with my problematic Toyota Picnic?

I have a Toyota Picnic 1998 2.0-litre petrol manual and it's driving me to an early grave. After £700 spent it's still got the same fault. For some time now the engine would cut out for no reason when driving. This used to happen once a month, then every other day and now many many times weekly. I have been to numerous garages, all having done a diagnostics test which came up with different solutions, but still the problem persists. I was told it needed a new fuel pump and this did not help. I was told it was plug leads, but when changed they did not help. I was told it needed a crankshaft sensor, and when replaced it did not help. I was told it was the ECU and replaced it with a secondhand one, and again this did not help. Your urgent help would be greatly appreciated as Toyota can't help me and I need the car for work.

My advice is to get rid of it. It's 12 years old, it's unreliable, it has problems that can't easily be fixed and manufacturers do not have to supply parts for cars more than 10 years old. Why prolong the agony?
