What is causing my Nissan Micra's engine to cut out?

In 1996 I bought a Nissan Micra, which, after four years, developed a problem where the engine kept cutting out at stop signs. My mechanic couldn't fix it, and so I sold it, and bought another Nissan Micra in 2001. I still have this car, which has given no trouble at all, until a few weeks ago when it seems to have developed the identical problem. Someone told me you had written about this previously. Could you tell me what you wrote?

It's usually the mass airflow sensor that is buried inside the throttle body and Nissan only supplies it as part of an expensive complete new throttle body. A few clever people can clean/repair them in situ.
