  • Salvage Value of (Cat C?) Car 24 Jan 2017 (Forum)
However after getting the car looked at by a local body shop he has decided that keeping and repairing the car with s/h parts was more sensible. However the insurance company have come back with what appears a high’ish price which also does not include a hire car – the two costs together (he would need the use of another car whilst his is being repaired) being about 50% of the first offer.

  • Any - Best cheap small van 5 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Previous to that was an LDV Pilot with roller back door and front sliding doors which was ok for local runs.Have a year 2000 Pilot ,bought to do up,but that`s probably not going to happen,as the rust weevils will probably get to it first .Would probably prefer a van that size, but it would cost a lot more to run I expect? Any sound advise appreciated, thanks.

  • Anyone used Mytyres? 8 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Very very few manufacturers make this size/rating.  Uniroyal don't.  Anyway I currently have some Conti Premium Contact 2's on there (OEM) - OK but not great in the wet.  I've been reading good reviews about the Falken ZE912's and it's them I'm set on. Mytyres coming in at about £72 a corner..fitted.  Next nearest I can get from the usual suspects is £100 plus or minus.
  • Renault - Lack of Torque 27 Sep 2011 (Forum)
If I wanted to save trees etc I'd walk everywhere. I don't so I drive. If I wanted a car that had no torque and s***ty fuel economy then I'd buy a s***ty little 1 litre petrol car with 50bhp and less than 100lb/ft of torque not a 110bhp diesel that can develop 200+ lb/ft torque. STOP trying to make regular cars Eco friendly and let those of us who want to drive drive and let the tree huggers walk everywhere and eat veggies.
  • Smart Roadster Coupe - Rear coil springs 7 May 2011 (Forum)
2)Can anyone direct me to online  details on procedure for fitting rear road springs to Smart Roadster Coupe `04/`05 plate please?Usually don`t bother with manuals but reckon it might save time on this one. She`s sitting down on the drivers side rear, can`t see anything underneath so suspect top of coil is broken. It`s done 40,000miles,hasn`t been thrashed,I`m only allowed in the passenger seat ;) but you feel every pothole&manhole cover........so does the suspension I would guess.First became suspicious when the driver appeared to do an odd correction mid-corner at times, usually her driving isn`t too alarming. Now I understand car was oversteering on right-handers and understeering on lefthanders.

  • Inertia Reel Seat Belts 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
My father, Frank Loraine, was a toolmaker working for a small company in Edgware Middlesex in the 1960's. He was taken to the London Motorshow in the early/mid 60's, I believe 1963, and I was told it was because he had designed an automatic seatbelt which Britax were launching at the show. I believe this to be the Inertia Reel Seatbelt.
  • The next `show stopper` in motoring? 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It surely must have caught people out as it seems shares plummeted in Sat Nav companies on the announcement. 2) Now here`s the question. What`s next? The next big surprise in cars or motoring - that will have an effect on shares, or transform something already established. As an imaginary example - an `ever lasting` self cleaning spark plug about to be announced made out of a new alloy.
  • Upgraded Lightbulbs 8 Dec 2009 (Forum)
As I transition from the Altea (leaves my care 5th Jan) to the Lancer (arrived in my stable November 28th) Its hard not to do side by side comparisons. One of which is lights. The dipped beams on the Altea (H7's) are superb. Bright white and sharply defined. The lancer (H4's) are not bad, good beam definition, not patchy, but not quite as good as the Altea. So upgrade bulbs to be slipped in. (access to the bulbs is super, nothing much in the way - probably classed as just a "one knuckle" graze) Now I have determined from the web that the Philips x-treme +80% or the philips vision plus +50% are the bulbs to go for for performance.

  • Mercedes Benz - What did they do with the stock? 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
In the up to one year old E280Cdi category there were dozens of matches, and the prices certainly reflected the effect of reduced demand with lots of good spec models under 5k miles at around, or even under, £25k. Mercedes have ?updated? their search interface this week (in the usual way of progress it?s fussier, clumsier and less easy to use than the one it replaced but that?s another matter.) Where has all the stock gone? Using the same criteria today it returned precisely two matches. I wondered if they?
  • Need a Motorway estate to replace my 03? Focus est 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
But my role for the car has changed, and I now am doing about 500 miles per weekend on the M1/A1. (Oh joy). The little focus isn?t really in it?s element here; it?s a bit noisy, vibrates a bit too much, and the journey is a bit more tiring than I think it needs be. I initially had the car given the once over; and it needed rear shocks, a wheel bearing and tyres: this helped a lot, but I still can?

  • FIAT Panda 4x4 (2005 - ) - The Great Tyre Experiment 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
They have gripped quite well but I want to see if another make of tyre will be better. I need all season tyres marked M+S (no, not Marks and Spencer) to give a bit of 4x4 credibility. I have chosen Hankook Centum H720's from mytyres, based on the reviews that the website provides. They are a good looking uni-directional tyre so handling may even improve in adverse conditions.
