Ford Puma (1997 - 2001) - 2000 1.7 - Loss of Power 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The problem is totally arbitrary ie it can happen when the engine is cold or hot, in low gear or in high gear and in different weather conditions. I have had new leads and spark plugs fitted and it has been hooked up to Ford diagnostics and shows no error codes. The guys at my local Ford garage have contacted Ford UK but have been told this isn't a known problem. -
BIG BIG fines ahead for many motorists !! 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I don't condone offences of any kind, motoring or otherwise, but the new sentencing regime will undoubtedly lead to much higher fines being imposed. A J.P., Sussex " HJ response "Just wonderful..." I for one have nort seen any publicity for this. :-(( Time to start putting a few ££s in piggy bank each week ??? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1999 1.3l - will i ever have music again!! 29 Mar 2008 (Forum)
i got a flat battery a few weeks back and asked a friend to come out n jump start me...i assumed he knew what he was doing but got suspicious when spark and smoke started coming off my engine...i think he'd either let the leads touch or wired them up wrong...anyway after a small panic we finally got my car going and everything is fine except that my radio just does not work now it doesnt even switch on to allow me to put the code in or anything...i changed the fuse in the box to the bottom right of the steering wheel...i went to halford who got radio out for me (it was factory fitted) and recommended getting a new radio from a scrap yard... -
Starting a flooded engine! 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The plugs look ok, on the spark end, but there is a little corrosion around the nut end. possibly why the plug caps were so difficult to remove. I have replaced two of the HT leads - making sure that only one was changed at a time, so not to confuse the firing sequence. When the car was tried again it was exactly the same. The engine turns smoothly, but does not fire at all. -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - N-reg 1.4CL - poor cold-weather performance 20 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Prior to the starting behaviour it would occasioanlly hesistate on acceleration while cold. It had a new set of HT leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm last year. I've read as many of the relevant posts on the forum and am planning to change the coil pack and check the spark plugs as a matter of course (the coil pack looks quite old). -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 2000 2.5 v6 - Won't start 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The smoke that comes out of the exhaust is black when cranking, and there is a healthy smell of petrol, so, what do people think may be the cause? She has a recent replacement coil pack and brand new HT leads, none of which made any difference to the running, which, even when she does start, is less than perfect. She often seems to hesitate and often the power delivery will become weak, sometimes in mid-acceleration the get up and go will appear to have gotten up and gone! -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1997 1.4 8v - Misfire and hesitation 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The coil seems okay (mutimeter tested), the spark plugs are beautiful (just like the picture of what they should look like in the haynes manual) and the ht leads are new (though of dubious quality and slightly high resistance readings about double what they should be) they were fitted when i bought the car. Everyone i speak to suggests something different to replace and i cant afford all of them. -
A close shave ! / CLS V12 ? 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I entered the roundabout at about 30mph, it is normally a quick flick left, a quick flick right, before accelerating up the open NSL stretch that leads to and over the motorway before the 30 limit in Rooksbridge. However as I crossed in front of the van I could see the nose of a CLS steaming towards me lifting under full throttle, I guess the driver wanted to head south, the same way as the van and thought he would nip around the outside of the van at the roundabout. -
Where's the feedback loop 30 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Once upon a time you might have been pulled over by a policeman which might serve as a wakeup call. Now its likely to be a speed camera - which is leading more and more of the people I know to regard exceeding the speed limit as the single most dangerous thing they can do. If we're serious about cutting road death, I believe it can be done. But I think we need to do more than just put up speed cameras. -
Underpowered Fiesta mk4 1.25 zetec 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Didn't notice it before, but it doesn't sound like a normal induction noise. I have changed/checked: Spark plugs, HT leads, fuel filter, vaccum hoses, sensor connectors, throttle body gaskets, inlet manifold gaskets. Diagnostics show no failed sensors but reports the error code P1270 (Engine RPM Or Speed Limiter Reached) this error re-occurs when cleared dispite revs kept below 5000rpm. -
Galaxy Air Con 22 Feb 2007 (Forum)
A garage he went to removed the clutch from the end of the compressor and told him this was the problem so this was the first thing I decided to check. As there was no power to the comp. I rigged uo a lead from a battery and low and behold, the clutch on the comp. moves in and out as it should so I am going to discount this?. I have checked all the fuses which are ok and am now at a bit of a loss as to where to look now. -
Electrical problems Skoda Fabia tdi 7 Sep 2006 (Forum)
leaving the engine running as I knew the problem would go away if I stopped it. After head scratching they decided that the fault lay in a damaged electrical lead from the battery to somewhere?, replaced it and all seemed well. We drove to the UK & back, 6000 km inc. running around there and happily tootled around locally here for a total of about 10,000km since the "fix" until the problem re-surfaced a week or so ago. -

New BMW feature ;-) 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Initially ********tronic will be available on the forthcoming 316i and 318i models only, but the system is expected to become standard fitment for all models in the smaller 1-series range within a year. Other German makers are expected to follow BMW's lead, including Audi who is poised to make certain versions of the A4 available with a rival system dubbed 'Pushy**** Plus'." (edited in deference to the concerns of our dear mods!) Sniff also show the proposed dashboard button. -
Motoring documents 11 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Send all important docs (such as returned NIPs) by recorded delivery. Failure to return these forms could lead to prosecution, what happens when they "lose" the form that you sent back? 3. If declaring a sorn, go to post office where you can get a reciept. I know of someone with a tax exempt vehicle who has had problems because the dvla "never recieved" the sorn that was sent in the post. 4. -
We're back... 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Right, well, sorry about that. At least I know what the yellow lead is plugged in for now - turns out it wasn't spare at all !! We're here and insofar as I can see, working. Assuming that is the case, I can now chase after that irritating little troll David Neve, although you will no doubt know him as cleanaroundthebend and may remember him as The Watcher. -
Lex Warns of Increased Engine Failures 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
FWIW beware gizmo-ridden vehicles which don't have fundamental instrumentation such as low coolant, low oil level, engine over-temperature. So we can assume that satnav, aircon, and colour-coded cupholders will naturally lead on from advanced engine state instrumentation? Think again. And our eco-friendly, lean-burn common rail powerplant won't use oil like a Morris Marina as it's so "advanced? Oh dear. Not so. And this is "progress"? -
Fiat Cinquecento problems 6 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Before I bought it it turns out it had the following parts replaced by a garage in an attempt to get rid of the problem which just wouldn't go away: Spark plugs, HT leads, 2 map sensors, complete single point injection unit, 2 temperature sensors, crank sensor, lambda sensor, and 3 ECUs. My Fiat dealer did a diagnostic test and recommended a new lambda probe (which I replaced). -
Brittania Rules the Brainwaves 8 Jan 2002 (Forum)
From yesterday's Sunday Times THE British have enjoyed a leap in IQ unmatched by anybody else in the developed world over the past 60 years, a study has revealed. James Flynn, a professor at the University of Otago in New Zealand and a leading authority on intelligence quotient, says he has found an ?exceptional and unappreciated? rise. Last year the professor announced a worldwide increase in IQ after demonstrating that we are generally brighter than our parents, but are outwitted by our children. -
Tuning box/Battery probs 18 Oct 2001 (Forum)
The loom for the box connects to: A) The white accelerator cable just above the pedal position sensor B) The red coloured ignition cable C) the cable to the boost pressure sensor above the inlet manifold is split, and the two ends are connected to two wires from the tuning unit D) A cable is clamped onto one of the black wires leading into the injection pump Has anyone got a similar unit? Anyone care to comment on its reliability or the effect it has had on the performance of your car? I am just curious! Secondly! The next day after having the unit fitted, I started the car and drove to work with no problems.
