Good ground clearence what to buy? 6 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It's due for replacement and with rising fuel prices and both working in the NHS so on a pay freeze we need to find something a bit more economical, 4 wheel drive is not important as we have several Land Rovers if the going gets rough, ground clearence is, size is not overly important as there is usualy only the wife and I, but we are used to high-up vehciles, with a bit of comfort and good drivabilty, we are both the wrong side of forty so not boy racers but we don't plod around at 45mph either. -

Daihatsu - Are Daihatsu finished in the UK? 24 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Today I popped into the nearest dealer to me and there was a solitary new Sirion in the showroom. The salesman confessed it was their last car because the importer had stopped bringing them in because of the pound's massive decline against the yen. Some long-established dealers might have a few cars left but that seemed to be about it for the marque. Since the same importer handles Subaru and Isuzu, are there any indications in the trade about what might be happening with them, apart from huge price rises already being seen? -
Which tyre from this list? 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)

Opel - Were they ever Officially sold in the UK? 6 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Also front page of V5 declares 'New at registration'.And the V5 States Vauxhall (not Opel!). I always thought Opel where imported from Europe and thus it would be declared an import on the V5? Or did dealers sell Opels direct in the UK at some stage? Also the Opel Astra is badged with standard Vauxhall Badges front and rear but has the Opel Logo on wheels, Steering wheel and door shut protectors etc? -
Merc W124 E220 - Made in India 28 Aug 2005 (Forum)
About 5 years ago Trade Sales were selling new W124 E220 Mercedes made(or rather assembled) in India for less than half the price of 'regular' E class Mercedes.(about £13k?) At that time the E220 was not imported into UK. I am told that some of these are now appearing for sale at prices not much cheaper than regular Mercs. Given that there were lots of personal imports from Europe at that time, you would need to be something of an expert to know that these were not the same as a European spec car. -
used car safety ratings 2 Jul 2005 (Forum)
In the small cars the pre 98 Astras got a much better rating than the post 98 ones. The Focus is not listed because it wasn't imported into Australia during the period of the study but the old style 95 to 01 Mondeo gets a good rating. We didn't import the new style Mondeo. -

Nissan Almera Automatic 24 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Whats also important to me is the reliability of the gear box. I have noticed that some of the smaller Fords seem to have very bad writeups about the reliability of the automatics. I have seen people recommend Japanese cars for automatics. -
Why do they do it? 8 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The practice also cause in part, the massive depreciation cars go through because once you buy any product for say £10,000 then the seller offers virtually the same product days later at say £9,250, the product you bought for £10k has immediately lost another £750 in value! UK dealer should have to comply with the same registration regulations as private importers in that a vehicle must be registered with 14 days of arrival in the UK. If I import a car into the country and don't sell it within 14 days, I have to register it and so should they. -
Speedometer Checking 22 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Could anyone advise please ? It seems, nowadays, that speedo accuracy is of ever increasing importance, especially when we hear of drivers being booked for, seemingly, small increases over a particular limit. Also, in my case, having converted my Japanese import's speedo face from KPH to MPH, I am getting a bit paranoid about it's accuracy. -
Golf IV 1.6 Refinement? 3 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I have an imported Golf 1.6 16v, which is dreadfully unrefined. Engine noise and boom into the cabin at 3000 rpm and above is awefull. I have noticed on other 1.6 Golfs that there is sound insulation under the bonnet and on the bulkhead.
