  • Parents Guide To Help Cut Child Road Deaths 26 Apr 2007 (News)
"The statistics show clearly the dangers to children of starting a new journey pattern, by changing school, for example, or a new mode of travel as they progress from walking to cycling to driving," says Neil Greig, IAM Trust Assistant Director. Although the number of children in Britain who are killed or seriously injured in road accidents each year has halved since 1990, the road toll remains high.

  • Barchetta Back 4 Jun 2004 (News)
After a false previous return when trouble at the factory left the UK with hardly any cars, FIAT's cheap and cheerful sportscar is back in the UK again at a low, low £11,995. Mechanically identical to the original model and still built in left-hand drive only, the Barchetta, which was restyled at the end of 2002, is powered by FIAT’s 16-valve, twin overhead camshaft 1.8 litre VVT engine which produces 130 bhp, giving it a top speed of 124 mph, with 0-62 mph acceleration in 8.9 seconds.
  • Peugeot 406 Coupe Goes Diesel 1 Jun 2001 (News)
Because it emits just 168 grams per kilometre of CO2, the 406 2.2HDI coupe not only sits in band C (£150pa) VED, it also qualifies for company car taxation on 18% of the car's list prices of £22,295 for the S and £24,995 for the SE. So a 40% taxpayer will pay as little £1,605.24 a year for the privilege of being seen driving one of the most beautiful cars currently in production. (This rises to £1,799.64 for the SE, but falls to as little as £1,003.28 for a 25% taxpayer.) Top speed of the new car is 129mph, while the massive 235lb ft (319Nm) torque should give effortless hillclimbing and overtaking ability.

  • Radicals to Battle at Castle Combe on 1st October 20 Sep 2011 (News)
The local scrap metal dealer has been battling all season with his arch rival Simon Tilling from Vernham Dean, the pair swopping the lead of both Class A and the overall title. Both drive Radical sports racing cars, but the two machines are quite different. Shanley drives the Prosport version once in the hands of Louis Davidson, who took it to four class and two outright championship titles from 2003 to 2006.
  • Astonishing variety of cars lined up for Cholmondeley Pagaent of Power 25 May 2011 (News)
The car will join a host of other E-Types for a display at the Pageant to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic Jaguar. Of particular interest to motor racing enthusiasts will be the group of four-wheel drive F1 cars. The four examples on display are rare for a reason: the Lotus 63, for example, was an experimental Formula One car designed by Colin Chapman for the 1969 season, but after just a single test run, drivers Graham Hill and Jochen Rindt flatly refused to drive the car due to safety concerns.

With his penchant for driving his race car to meetings, Mark is following in the footsteps of double Class C champion, Julian Howell from Radstock, whose BMC Mini was also road registered. With a theoretical limit on the effective power two front wheels can deliver, the eyes are on the progress of the new rear wheel drive 3 litre BMW 130i of Ditcheat's Kevin Bird.

  • Chelsea Legends, 5th September, to feature 'Le Mans' 24 Aug 2010 (News)
They put a spare engine in the 512S I’d had in the race and I drove that car and, on occasions, some of the Porsche 917s, too. Steve’s passion for speed was obvious: he wanted to drive flat-out all the time and the filming was almost a secondary reason for being there. Which is probably why we all got on so well and we were completely comfortable having him driving with us at 200 miles an hour.

Future Classic Friday: Alfa Romeo 147 9 Mar 2018 (News)
Anyone who has owned (and inevitably loved) an Alfa will tell you this. The offset driving positon, clunky gearchange and slightly odd steering feel were matched by low-rent plastics and a distinct lack of ergonomic forethought. You couldn't, for example, eject a CD if there was a cup in one of the cup holders, which would seem pretty obvious to many.  But it came with a level of charm and character not seen on any other car in its class.
