Citroen DS3 - Tradesman won't answer calls 22 Jun 2017 (Forum)
i went to see the car and fell in love with it I had a little drive of it --- it felt ok but nothing like my old car which was a diesel I put it down to being a petrol it felt different --- the car was advertised for £3999 So I went back home and wanted to buy it I arranged to lend money off my mum as i still had my old car and was still driving it about -- i bought the car for £3750 and drove it to my mum's where I left it there for 3 weeks as i still had my old car --- I went away to Portugal on 29 May and came back 5th June --- whilst I was in portugal my old car sold so I started driving the citroen on the 6th June --- I needed 3 new tyres which I purchased for £240 and they told me the back wheel was buckled then not long after I was home off my holiday i heard a massive rattle and the engine sounded like it was going to explode --- so I took it to a garage and then said the engine was gone the car was a bag of crap and should never of been sold --- so I tried contacting the man but no answer no reply no return call I got this fixed as it ended up being a poly v belt and then 2 days later the engine fault came on as i was on the moterway and had to call the rac out which cost £150 to join and get took to a garage --- they then told me it was the water pump something else costing £680 at this point I was crying my eyes out I don't work due to illness as i had a brain tumour and now suffer with problems: again I contacted the man I bought the car off and nothing --- so my mum rang him and he answered to where he apologised and said he would help me out on the cost of repairs and if I'd oh had the car for less than 6 weeks he's refund the money to which I text him to say is appreciate the help of money but then I realised I'd not had the car 6 weeks --- so I tried again to contact him but nothing again --- the car was ready on Friday 16th June to pick up with the bill of 680 so I paid this from a loan and drove back home --- now today the engine light has come on Wednesday 21st June so I called the rac and the cost of repairs today is 280 --- I've tried contacted jjcarsales2017 but nothing again can I get help with this --- all in all I've spent 1500 extra had hire cars had loans and I'm stuck I hate this car now citroen ds3 1.6 10 plate --- can you help me --- I have receipts of the hire cars of the bills and the rac costs-- I trusted this man and he new i didn't work due to my brain tumor -- it's really upset and hurt me I don't know what to do next -- I have his address and contact number too -
the battery that came in out of the cold 25 Feb 2007 (Forum)
When it was time to come off the ramp the starter motor had died (proved by use of meter & a sharp tap on the solenoid) so after checking the price at the factors (!) it was round to the scrapyard for a new old one. Needless to say, once the recycled motor was fitted, the engine started easily on the old battery this despite having been dumped outside for two weeks in a semi-discharged condition. I know the sensible thing would have been to retain the new battery, but there are greater emotions in play here than common sense! -

to be decided - electric cars for the elderly 5 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I am in my 80’s and run an ageing Honda Jazz iShift. Goes very well, but is now 14 years old. My wife drives the car mainly to visit nearby friends all within five mike radius. I use it for getting to a couple of social clubs I belong to. Our combined annual mileage is barely 2500 miles. Might we do better to invest in an electric car and save the barely affordable annual servicing costs we presently have to pay? -
All makes - The new era of the car 29 May 2020 (Forum)
Now the PM has advised us to avoid public transport. So could the virus rekindle the car industry ? And will your date be impressed by a driverless car while you sit back twiddling with the navigation system ? Has there ever been a better time to drive than now ? Fuel is cheaper than bottled water, the roads are empty and I’m enjoying the MOT holiday on my 17 year old Audi. -
Various cars. - Touch up paints 20 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I need to get a small amount of paint for touch up purposes on a range of cars including a 1969 Triumph Herald estate, Alfa Romeo Guilia Quatrofoglio, Aston Martin DB9, Alfa Romeo 156 GTA and a four year old Audi RS4 B8. My nearest paint factor is thirty miles away and it’s not feasible for me to take all of these cars there for scanning. -
Toyota - Buying a used imported car? (£3000) 14 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hello all, I’m going to look at a fairly low mileage Toyota Yaris auto at a dealer. The dealer isn’t sure where the car originated from although I’m sure the VIN will tell me this. It’s right-hand drive and mileage is in Km. The usual internet checks for MOT, etc, only go back two years (the car is 11 years old). The V5 is available. -

Hi, My wife has just bought a used car. We had a few weeks ago put her private plate on retention so we could sell her old car. Having never done it before how do we go about putting the plate on the new car? Do we have to wait until we get the logbook back from DVLA before we can asign the plate to the car. -

Help! Japanese vs UK Cars 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Hi all. I am just going to buy a car and want to avoid a Japanese import (I'm just too much a novice buyer to buy foreign!!). Given that it will be either an old VTEC Prelude or a 300ZX, are there any guaranteed ways to tell if it is a UK/Japanese car? -
Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSi S - Replacing my Mondeo 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
So I'm finally replacing my 2002 1.8 petrol Mondeo hatchback. I was generally happy with the car though it had a few problems other than wear items - fuel pump, two springs, other suspension parts, wheel bearings, HT leads, rear calipers. But for an 11 year old car owned for 8 years not too bad. -
Golf GTi MkV 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The interior "mood" is less sombre than Beemers of old. Difficult to believe that it has 200bhp under the bonnet, certainly no inkling of this is communicated to the driver, in fact it feels almost rwd certainly miles ahead of the low end Focii I've driven as hire cars. -

OK so lets include commercial and public use here. Lets have a few categories as well. How old is the oldest vehicle you can remember recently spotting in commercial or public use? Peugeot 205 Gentry - Engine Flush et al 25 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Worth me treating my car to these Forté prodcuts? 2. Should I leave it and not tinker with it? 3. Is the use of these products recommended for such an old engine? 4. Any other advice/hints/tips? I will call Forté tomorrow - or failing that Monday morning for their 'advice'. -
Is it cheaper ? - Buying outside UK 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
....he says and ducks ! ) At any rate I didn't post this to get into that old chestnut, please just bear with me and take it that for all sorts of comfort / loadspace / economy reasons that this is the car I will probably buy again. I was browsing on the usual UK sites to see what current prices are being charged for these cars and given my reasonably open-ended brief ie. three years old-ish, 50k-ish, mid to upper spec-ish it was throwing back suitable cars at anywhere between £6.5k and £8.5k.
