  When car started I made my journey home via the motorway  and and when got home ii switched the engine off and measured the battery voltage being 12.6v. This morning I measured the battery terminal voltage being 12.35v on my Fluke DVM. Seems quite low but started ok.  As the car is still under warranty, I called the dealer and asked them to do a test on the battery but was told that I need to book in next month as they are too busy.

  Also when I just turn ignition on the is a relay (i think) that is clicking away like mad (possibly trying to power up the fuel pump) Not sure but im guessing at that. I assume relay may be doing that due to battery being flat. I think the battery is knackered but would like input off anyone out there who has any ideas?   My son has a 2000 1.2 Fiat Punto which I purchased from a relative. Low mileage and no problems until recently. The battery keeps going flat after just a couple of days lack of use. I have had a new battery fitted and even had a mechanic pal look at it who couldn't find a problem. I read a similar problem on this site which suggested it might be the boot light staying on so I removed the bulb and for a week (driving it every other day or so) all was well so I thought I had solved the problem.

  Electric Avenues - dear lord, HJ still peddling the myth that EV batteries will 'need replacing.' HJ, how many EVs are you aware of that have needed their battery packs replacing? You can include first generation Leafs if you wish but a simple search of You Tube will find reports of Tesla's with over 200k miles and still on their original packs and, even venerable Leafs that have only 'lost' 4 and 5% of their battery capacity.

  What a Muppet. I disconnected old battery and must have twisted it when putting it down. Anyway I put the new one in and got the +ve and -ve the wrong way round. Fans and the horn came on and I disconnected it. I realized to my horror the error I made.
