  • Vauxhall Meriva A MPV (2003 - ) - 04 1.7cdti Dual Mass Flywheels 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I couldn't find " list" of what cars have these contraptions fitted - perhaps we could have a standalone thread ? And if these cars do have a DMF, can a solid flywheel be fitted at replacement time ?
  • Volkswagen Sharan - VW Sharan DSG oil/flywheel 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Assuming it's the same engine as in other cars? Also given its an auto will it have a DMF still or does it use a torque converter.   Anyone know either way? Thanks
  • Volkswagen Passat B6 - Slight grinding in 5th 26 May 2017 (Forum)
I've just bought an 06 passat 6 speed 2.0 tdi (140) and have receipts from previous owner of new gearbox and clutch/DMF 3 months ago. Problem is since I've had the car, there is slight grinding when changing to fifth gear. All other gears are fine. It drives lovely in every gear even fifth after the grind. This should not be happening when both gearbox and clutch have been replaced.
  • Honda Accord - Clutch vibration and heavy engine noise 2 May 2016 (Forum)
It stops making that noise when I start driving, so only when idele of breaking to a stop. It come and goes , so does not happen all the time, could it be the DMF?  On another issue, the engine is making a whinning humming noise on acceleration, its not the wheel bearing as if I take out of gear that noise goes. Its not loud but slightly annoying.
  • SEAT Toledo - Ringing in DSG gearbox/transmission? 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Noise stops after change then does not come back when driving. Doesn't happen on down change. Seemingly DMF and clutches okay. Mainly happens in colder weather. Happened 3 years ago and it went away. Any ideas what it is? BTW, the car drives really well and the changes are fast and smooth...
  • Biggest regression on manufacturers' model change? 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm thinking along the lines of particular vehicle ranges rather than general technological developments such as DMFs, DPFs or catalytic converters. Examples mentioned in Avant's post include: BMC 1100 to Allegro (which should have been a British Golf with a hatchback) Alfasud to Alfa 33 Peugeot 205 to 206 and 306 to 307 Saab 900 (pre-GM) to 9-3
  • Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 04 1.5dci Clutch Slip? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Could it be a poorly adjusted clutch (e.g. it's not been released fully when the foot is off the pedal)? . Does this car have a DMF and is this an early sign of it's impending failure? Car is only 3.5 years old and with just under 30k on the clock.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - Possible gearbox damage due to garage? 30 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Now the car has done 104000 miles and the garage did tell me that at this mileage & in particular with the 6 speed gearbox that it is common to need gearbox replacement. But for this to happen literally as soon as they had such trouble with the clutch & dmf is a bit close for comfort! Any advice you can offer me would be very very much appreciated. Thanks!!!
  • Mondeo mk3 estate or Landcruiser Colorado? 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've been running a '03 mk3 Mondeo TDCI (130) Estate in Ghia X spec for the last 20 months - I brought it at 107k, the car has now done almost 128k and just before Christmas the DMF/Clutch went and the DMF, clutch and slave cylinder were all replaced. The 3rd gear syncro also seems worn and it crunches every now and then when selecting 3rd gear. Also the starter may need to be replaced as it still "clicks" occasionally rather than turn over - this is usually to do with swarf from the DMF clogging the starter and it needs to be cleaned or replaced to resolve.
  • Volkswagen Golf VI - MK6 Golf 1.6 TDi - Possible clutch issue 17 Oct 2015 (Forum)
(the car wasnt up to temp at this point either) The car is very quiet whilst ticking over, doesnt sound like my old car which had a faulty DMF. Could it be a faulty release bearing? Cheers
  • Which of the three would you buy? 26 Feb 2012 (Forum)
All cars have FSH and are roughly the same price (give or take a couple of hundred) First car is an 06 plate volvo S40 2.0d SE with 75k on the clock Second car is an 06 plate VW Jetta S 1.9d with 105k on the clock.  It had a new clutch and DMF not too long ago Third is an 05 plate Honda civic SE 1.7 cdti with around 90k on the clock I intend to run either car into the ground - so resale doesnt matter much to me.  The only car above with cruise control is the S40
  • CRV etc - CRV or not CRV 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking diesel is probly not the way forward for low mileages (i've got 55k in 8years on the RAV4) because of DMF probs (which I've had with RAV4 :<(() and DPF on newer diesels? So anything else to consider a contender - IX35? Sonata? others? Any (helpful) comments, links, pointers gratefully received Thanks in advance JimB
  • Skoda Octavia 1.6CR / DSG - In praise of the DSG gear box 6 Oct 2010 (Forum)

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - tdci - how big a risk? 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
i've driven a few of these mondeos, and really like the idea of something with that kind of pull at those kind of running costs. however, i've also read a multitude of horror stories online regarding dmf problems and injectors packing in. what kind of mileage are we talking about before these problems manifest? what steps (if any) can i take to avoid them? and are we talking about a high percentage of cars with these issues, or have i got a really unrealistic impression from the internet?
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.4 Clutch questions. 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My question is does anyone know where I can buy the clutch at a decent price and then get someone to fit it? Also, does this car have a DMF and if so, is it wise to replace this at the same time as the clutch? Any comments will be much appreciated. Regards, Ben PS Mileage approx 85k on original clutch
  • Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - 2.7 twin turbo diesel 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
A bit of common sense has kicked in, and I am intrigued by the twin turbo diesel jaguar engine. HJ seems to really quite like it, but any warnings as to longevity/ DMF issues/ things going bang? Are they relatively much more expensive to buy than the equivalent petrol (the V6 3.0)? Part of me recoils in horror at the thought of a diesel jag, but it does seem to make good sense.
  • Corsa 1.3 cdti - Dual mass flywheel 16 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi everyone I have a corsa and I think the dmf is knackered . Gear changes are a bit notchy and it won't go into reverse without crunching  Also if you have it in first gear with the clutch pedal pressed and you rev it  it will slightly start to pull forward ..
  • Kia Carens - 'safe' motoring 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
So, I'm considering chopping it in for something a little simpler, and definitely not diesel so there's no DMF or DPF etc. I no longer do enough miles to justify diesel, but I do prefer how they drive.   I'm attracted to Kia, mainly for value and the warranty. In particular, the Carens 1.6GDi. A 2014 model with c.20k can be had from a franchised dealer for c.
  • £4.5k, which family car to keep long term? 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I really want a diesel, as I love the power delivery and fuel economy, but I am scared of buying because of the dreaded four (DMF, DPF, Injectors and Turbos). I really don’t fancy a gutless petrol that’s bad on fuel either. I don’t have a spare £1000 in my back pocket for a diesel repair bill either.
  • 2005 3 Series 318Ci - Clutch Problem BMW 318Ci 4 Jun 2015 (Forum)
If it needs a new clutch unit, what's the labour time? Does a new clutch mean a DMF too? Could there be any other issue? Thanks!
