AA cover 9 May 2003 (Forum)
I am just about to renew my breakdown recovery insurance. AA comes in about £85. I like this kind of cover because it can be used for my car or my motorbike, but does anyone know a cheaper provider of equivalent cover? -
Rover 75 Estate 19 May 2005 (Forum)
I would welcome any words of wisdom...my father-in-law is thinking about buying a nearly-new Rover 75 Estate, probably a petrol engined one. Honest John has a mixed review in the car-by-car breakdown section - has anyone got any experience or advice? -
Volvo V70 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Thinking seriously about buying a V70 in the next month or so - likely an X or Y reg SE spec. Have read HJ's Car-By-Car breakdown which gives it a good write-up but any thoughts from current owners out there would be gladly accepted, especially on the reliabilty front. -

jeep grand cherokee 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
HJ I read the recent thread on diesel automatics as I too fancy acquiring one. So what does the team think of the Grand Cherokee. There doesn't seem to be a review in the car by car breakdown. They look reasonable to me, they are well equipped and most of the 2nd hand ones seem to be automatic. -
VW Passat Recalls 14 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I remember readings of some VW PASSAT recall details on the HJ car-by-car breakdown page ..... I wonder has any UK owners of VW PASSATS (year 2000 onwards) ever been officially notified of any such recalls, and if so what what the basis of the recall? -

Bargain big saloon advice please 24 May 2005 (Forum)
So I've narrowed my choice down to either a Toyota Camry 2.2 or V6 from around 1992 to 1994, or a Saab 9000 2.0 or 2.3 ecopower from the same period. I've seen sub-100k mileage, FSH examples of both of these in my price range - and studied the breakdown on this excellent site - but are there any other options I should consider? And the car-by-car breakdowns on here warns about the autobox on the Saab - does anyone know what mileage they tend to fail? -
SEAT Ibiza 1.4S timing belt tensioners 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I have a 53 plate with 23k & in the car by car breakdown HJ states that plastic timing belt tensioners of 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines now failing regularly. What sort of age/mileage does this apply to & what's the best way of preventing it? -
Rover 200 Coupe - advice please 12 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hello, I am looking by a Rove Coupe but reading the car breakdown it mentions head gasket failure is commonplace. Can anyone shed any further light on this? Should I be avoiding this car? (I've sort of got my heart set on one!) Thanks Rich. -
News about facelift models 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone know where the news about forthcoming facelift models appears. There is no mention of anything on parkers/whatcar or on the honest john car by car breakdown news area. Very useful to avoid the chances of being stuck with an out of date model months/days after you have bought it! -

I have a 3 (and a bit) year old Daewoo Matiz with only 16,250 miles on the clock, according to the "Car-by-Car Breakdown" it will need a... 'Timing belt and GF50 tensioner pulley replacement at 40k miles or 4 years whichever comes first'. What is a GF50 Tensioner Pulley? -
Camp cars, your list..... 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Top Gear had a pretty accurate list of camp cars but there were a few missing. MGF,MX5,MR2 any convertible such as Astra/Escort/Golf (particularly in white). What else should be on this list ? Perhaps HJ could incude this list on the car-by-car breakdown ? -
Breakdown Mechanic killed my car 21 Jul 2004 (Forum)
As pulled up to the pump, I ran out completly! Thinking that this was pretty good timing, I filled up, paid, but couldnt start the car again. Obviously the pump needed priming again so I didnt keep cranking the engine as I know what can happen. So I called my breakdown company out to prime it for me. After waiting two hours the \'mechanic\' turned up. -
Ford Focus Ecoboost 2012 - Degas Hose recall 28 Jan 2016 (Forum)
we bought the car in December 2014 from the local Ford dealer, and have had no notification at all untill the inevitable breakdown 13 months later. If this garage sold it to us with an outstanding recall we need to take it up with them, as it seems there has been damage to the car as a result. -

VW T5 Transporter/Caravelle Reliability 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Thinking of changing our trusty wheelchair accessible T4 Caravelle for the newer T5 model. Does anyone have any experiences of the new model? The car by car breakdown suggests that they are not as bulletproof as first thought. Also quite like the look of the new despatch any thoughts. Thanks, Mark -
