Terrible car and hate nearly everything about it
I got my MG4 in November 2022 after someone wrote off my BMW, i was very worried at the time that clean air zones would take over most of my local areas so i decided to get the MG4 on PCP.
At first i liked the car because my BMW was much older and starting to look and feel its age, but that feeling did not last very long.
Of the claimed 217 miles i could only achieve 120 to 150
So i really tried my best to be an economical as possible to see how much extra range i could get and the result was NOT MUCH, , i complained to MG and they said it was because of the way i was driving it.
I told them that there must be something wrong with this car because other people dont seem to have the same problems and each time they just said it was all me and the way i was driving it!
As soon as the cold weather arrived my MG started to show its true colours when the range drops to 80 miles!
To add insult to injury the car also loses a huge amount of power when the temp drops below 0C, even with 80% battery the car will give reduced power and stop accelerating at 55mph!!
It also nearly caused me to have an accident when i pulled out on to the bypass, a normal car would have accelerated and cleared the oncoming traffic long before being at any risk, but my MG decided it could only give 5% power and crawled at about 2mph putting me in serious danger, thankfully the oncoming cars slowed and allowed me time to get out of the way but it could have been much worse.
I complained to MG who did nothing and also claimed there was nothing wrong with the car!
The car is also badly built, its had creaks and rattles from day 1, nothing on the car works well and some of the controls feel like they were designed by monkeys. Putting the light switch on dial the left indicator stalk which is accessible at the front and rear of the stalk often leads to the lights being switched off when indicating! Again this is very dangerous and should never have been allowed in to production.
Next is the so called safety features that are an abomination, after my car trying to kill me twice by turning me in to oncoming traffic i had to take drastic measure to permanently disable the auto steering and braking. Each time the car is at MG they claim to be fixing this with a new update but like with everything they claim to do , it changed nothing.
They key is also a joke and pops open each time its dropped on the floor which usually results in my house keys and the cars hidden being detaching.
The car is also one of the fastest depreciating cars on the planet, mine lost nearly £20000 in 2 years! and its now worth nearly £10000 less than my PCP final or agreed buy back value!
Public charging is also extortionate and takes ages with the MG4 because its never once achieved the claimed charging rate of 150kw. ive never seen mine charge higher than 70Kw so ive had to wait over an hour during charges and because the range is terrible and even worse on the motorway, i can only get about 120 miles for £35 which is pathetic.
Due to the poor range, expensive charging and charging waiting times it has put me off doing many long journeys and this car has only been used for work commuter and local shopping.
Sadly i have another 11 months with this car until i can return it and i will not be getting another EV until battery technology has some enormous advances and they become a like for like replacement for ICE cars but i will NEVER buy another MG.
