Overall reliability

Comfortable, reasonably practical estate car.

The vehicle was purchased new in July 2015 and has now covered 25000 miles - I have no plans to sell the car anytime soon.

Several reviews have commented on poor reliability, which I find surprising. Yes I did have two issues with the car soon after I took delivery, however both were of a minor nature and fixed under warranty; 1. Fault satnav (dealer told me this was a common problem and a software upgrade was necessary), 2. Automatic release of tailgate (another software update required apparently). No further faults to date.

I do however agree with some of the negative comments, no space saver spare is disappointing (many other manufacturers follow the same crazy practice), servicing charges are off the scale (solution use an independent, which of course I do) and in my particular case poor paint on the car bonnet........lots of chips and therefore many touch up sessions required. Folk say this is a result of manufacturers having to change the paint spec to align with new Euro standards and this may well be the case but my SLK does not suffer from the same problem?

Miles to the gallon for a 2 litre engine is fine at around low 40’S, happy with that! Quiet comfortable ride coupled with excellent auto gear box......why anyone would buy a manual in this day and age defies logic. Okay it’s no sports car but I bought the vehicle expecting a comfortable relaxed drive, which is what I have got. Pan sun roof performs well and is a useful addition, reversing camera is a plus too and I like the automatic luggage cover feature (maybe that’s just my preference as not mentioned in earlier reviews).

The general appearance of the interior is good aside from the central display screen, which in my view looks like an afterthought, however clearly didn’t stop me buying the car. So no creaks or noises experienced in the cabin, guess mine is reasonably well screwed together, or so it would appear. The luggage space isn’t great with the passenger seats in place but fortunately I don’t play golf therefore works for me - would recommend an E class for folk needing space. Seat coverings, not really sure what to say about the Artico material, slightly dodgy and in hindsight perhaps I should have specified leather?

To sum up - the car suits me and whilst not perfect (what is?) I am reasonably happy and do not regret my choice, which is probably obvious given I have had the thing for 5 years now.
