Don't touch with a bargepole

The GV60 is a beautiful car in many ways. It drives well, it is well equipped and is good looking, inside and out. My only criticisms would be a poor turning circle and the climate control system (see below).

But the ownership experience is a nightmare.

Genesis has acknowledged that there is a fault with all RHD cars. In some circumstances water gets between the windscreen and the scuttle panel beneath and into the cabin air filter. See picture of my wet filter. This prevents the air from passing through the filter. The symptoms of this can be an intense burning smell from the PTC heater (ie the independent heater in an electric car which has no engine to warm the air) and, more significantly, the windows can steam up uncontrollably when it rains; there is no ability to clear them with a blocked ventilation system. My car suffered from these problems and has been off the road since early January. The reason? Genesis does not yet have a fix. I feel sorry for others who are driving around in their cars when the same problem may well occur with them at an unexpected time, and I hope nobody has an accident.

But it gets worse. My car was taken away to the Genesis approved maintenance depot. Genesis maintenance work was subcontracted out to British Car Auctions in Corby. They lied to me. They told me that the windscreen had been replaced together with the scuttle panel and the filter, and that the whole thing had been checked without any water ingress. In fact only the first part of that was true. They had replaced the windscreen alone, and done nothing else. I know that they had replaced the windscreen because the car came back to me with broken glass in the interior and also in the (wet) filter. But it took me at least half a dozen requests for a written record of the work done to my car before Genesis confessed.

Just when I thought that was bad enough, Genesis failed to communicate or respond to emails over a long period of time.

And I should add - Genesis will promise you a personal assistant. But mine was made redundant and not replaced. I found out by Googling him, Genesis hadn't bothered to tell me, Nor have they provided me with another PA.

Don't believe a word of the advertising hype. Genesis is a disaster. Steer well clear.
