Very practical and nice drive but fuel economy not as advertised.

I bought this car having previously owned two hatchback 2 litre diesels. I bought this as a greener option and estate for more room for my golf clubs. First the good news. The car is as good to drive as the previous version (though not as lively as my 2007 no-filter model) and with sufficient room for my clubs and trolley. This model is a lot quieter as Ford has at last admitted that road noise was unacceptable; there is also less draught through the pedals. Now some gripes. The cooling air conditioning still comes on every time, even when it is minus 3 degrees C; the accessories have been downgraded so no folding wing mirrors and a couple of other goodies in the previous titanium version. But the main gripe is, of course, the fuel consumption: I consider myself an economic driver and got around 52 to 54 mpg on a mixed bag of measured tests (fill to brim and record mileages) previously, but my 1.5 Eco (150 BHP) has given me an average 41.1 with the computer reading 43.0. Overall though I must say I am very happy with this car and would recommend it.
