Avoid Power Shift geaarboxes on 1.6 petrol engines

Leased new in October 2014, gear-change jerky and judders, Got worse so In January 2015 taken back to Main dealer in York.

They stated that they could find no faults hinted it was my driving style!

Over next months problems continued including a real scare when the gearbox did not kick down and I was faced with a 44 ton HGV bearing down on me.

Booked car in for annual service in October 2015 and again complained about gearbox, reception staff looked on computer and said "I see you brought the car in during January and we replaced some parts". I commented that I was told no faults had been found!

To make a long story short car kept in for one week I'm told updates made to software, problems continued car returned to dealer kept for another 2 weeks still not cured. Ford say gearbox operates within acceptable parameters.

The problem is that when the gearbox oil gets very hot the oil vaporises which then passes onto the twin clutch causing judders and slipping

So after 10612 miles I give up and in the next few weeks the Ford will be replaced with a Vauxhall Astra auto Estate and I will never buy another Ford... Buyer beware of Ford Power-shift automatics
