Ford Focus (2018 on)

1.0 125 St-Line EcoBoost 5dr
Great drive, ecoboom engine
This was the first car me and my wife have bought brand new, the dealer wasnt great when buying the car and struggled to get the spec we wanted. We later had an engine light come on the dash after about 8 months of ownership and I used my own ODB reader to find out it was an O2 sensor, not major but when took it to dealer they wanted to charge me £80 to diagnose it even though I had already done this.. Ended up sorting the sensor myself which I think is shocking considering 3 year warranty.
Car itself drove really nice, reasonable power and very smooth for a little 3 cylinder 1.0l engine. It was comfortable on trips under 2 hours but I did do a few longer drives and it did kill my back after 2 hours (im 35).
About 2 years after ownership discovered all the issues with the Eco boost engines basically blowing up and discovered that all Eco boost engines use a 'wet' cam belt where the belt sits in oil. Basically the belt disintegrates in the oil and clogs the filter up starving the engine of oil, only way to replace this belt (every 5 years) is to take the whole engine out which is a 7 hour labour job!! Quotes for this ranged from £1200-£1700 meaning long term ownership is out of the window as risk of the engine failing was too great.
We ended up buying the car after the finance was up and we sold it on immediately due to the eco boost & wet belt issues. Its a shame as it was a lovely family car, loads of space, handles well, it ticked all our boxes apart from reliability and cost of maintenance.
From reading how Ford have treated their customers I wouldnt go near them in the future! Sadly a few car brands are like this now :(
I wouldnt recommend this car to anyone.
