Volkswagen confirms five-door Up!

One of the most important cars to appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year was the Volkswagen up!, a small city car that will replace the current Fox.

Besides the Volkswagen version there will be Skoda and SEAT variants. Most of the models displayed had three doors, but one exception was the cross up!, which is styled like a mini 4x4 or a dune-buggy.

The cross up! rides higher and is slightly wider than the smaller three-door models, and has a more rugged appearance. Silver underbody protectors appear front and rear, and a silver crossbar livens up the styling of a large honeycomb design front grille. There are also silver roof rails and red details in the wheels.

A red theme continues in the cabin, with red centre panels, a red dashboard upper panel and red details in the doors. There are also piano black details, and leather wrapped gearlever, steering wheel and handbrake cover.

The three-door up! will be available to order in late October, with first deliveries expected in early 2012. The five-door model will follow later in 2012.
