Hi
Just bought a Peugeot 106 1.5 TUD Diesel, the problem I have is when I drive the car over bumps or pot holes I can feel a knocking through the steering and I know it is definately coming from the drivers side, could it be the wish bone gone or the tie rod ball joint. Any suggestions would be great

try jacking up the offending side and putting a small bar in the rear wishbone bush this will show any play if it is duff GSF sell the bushes for less than a tenner but.....you will need a press or a home made puller using threaded bar and bits of tube .....................enjoy

If it's the bottom ball joint, replacing the entire wishbone (which comes complete with bushes and balljoint) is imo a better option as pressing a new balljoint in can be a pia and the bushes are likley worn as well..
(based on bitter experience)...

ok I will have a look at it properly on the weekend and I will see if it is defective, is this a common fault on peugeots106's?

Common fault on 106, 206 & 307.
Go too fast over speed bumps is a sure way to kill the wishbone bushes & balljoints over time on these.

Yes
I had a 106 petrol and bushes an dball joints were badly worn at 66k ( just got the wishbones relaced) and then had to have another wishbone replaced after a further 45,000 miles.

Before you start ring a local motor factor to see if wishbone is in stock. If so , you could inspect/collect parts needed and change entire wishbone in under a day. If you intend replace balljoint only, it could take longer - and some blood as well:-(

Well I have seen a website where I can purchase a wishbone for this car for £15.00 which is not bad as peugeot dealers charge at a rte of £80.00 so I am opting for the cheap one, and see how that goes if any of you wish to buy parts at a cheap cost, try this website, you may be impressed to see how much you could be saving its www.buypartsby.co.uk/ , give it ago tell me what you think.

ive used alot of the buyparts stuff, originally for my 306 wishbones which were £16 each with the idea that even at that cost if they needed doing every year it'd still be cheaper than the oem peugeot items which are good for 2-3 years at best, having said that 2 years later the wishbones are still fine with no play in the bushes

Well just fitted the drivers side wish bone, and that problem of knocking has gone now, and I did inspect the old wishbone, the bush that joins onto the body of the car was cracked and perished, and the ball joint was very loose on the arm, so it was knackerd. Just one thing though with the steering centralised and when I turn it left to right slightly like they do at the MOT I noticed a clonking sound, not sure if thats a outer tie rod ball joint knackered or a inner tie rod ball joint knackered, any ideas??
