Am I correct in thinking that to qualify for the 3 year Warranty, the car must be serviced at a Renault garage? Looking at buying one approx 2 years old.

Car must be serviced as per the servicing guidelines at any VAT reg garage - using genuine Renault parts.
The 3rd year warranty on some makes is via an insurance company
Then the franchise must be the franchised garage.

And there lies the problem - will the non-Renault garage know what the exact servicing requirements are? In my opinion it's just not worth the risk, for the sake of paying more and having it done at Renault and then not having to worry about having a claim bounced. Peace of mind and all that.
Once it's out of warranty, then of course do as you please.
