primera p11-144 sport+ - Big I
I have got a droneing sound coming from my car that is driving me nuts,i have had both front wheel bearings replaced & both rear hub bearings replaced.But still the noise is there,it seems to be there most of the time & is most notable above 40 mph,it also increases in noise/drone when on a smooth tarmac road,the vehicle has also being tracked & has had new front tyres.The car drives great otherwise with no vibration from the steering or car in general,just this awful drone,which does appear to be comeing from the rear drivers side area,any advice would be greatly appreciated to this costly headache££££££££.

may sound silly, but have you examined the tyres on the rear, or tried swopping them alternately with the spare.

Most likely the tyres. Can you 'borrow' a pair of different rears (or have a really cheap set fitted, to prove the point).

Thanks guys,I think they maybe something in that,i think i will try to swap around the fronts & backs,just to see if it makes a difference,iknow the backs are getting to the end of there life.
Will let you know,what i find.

Lots of tyres can very noisy when well-worn. I drove a car running on a set of barely legal Dunlops last week and it made a hell of howling noise up to about 40mph. Went off a bit as they warmed up.

Took car to local tyre garage yesterday & replaced both back tyres,my last hope.RESULT" no more noise&dont after have stereo turned right up,Brilliant"just goes to show you should check the most simplist things first,but it was making such a racket you wouldnt dream it was a tyre problem,goes to show how wrong i was,just like to say a big thankyou to the guys who pointed me in the right direction,feel a bit stupid now HA!HA! Cheers.

The trick in identifying tyre noise is that it is usually independent of load, and only dependent on speed. Bearings and couplings and gears tend to make a noise which varies in sympathy with the load on them.
