For Sale Sign on Car - Warning

Hi,

I want to put my car up for sale. Someone suggested putting a flyer inside the car, but I know my local council has prosecuted some street car dealers. They park up cars on the street and leave for sale signs on them. These dealer operate from home and don't have any premises.

I am just wondering, what the rules and regulations are?
Are there any local laws?

Traders and private individuals are treated quite differently by councils - of course the car(s) need to be taxed, tested and insured to be on the public highway.

I vaguely recall that anyone selling more than 6 cars a year is treated as a trader - but IMO that number limit should be lower.

Check with your local Council to see if any ByLaw maye be infringed.

Sect 3 Clean Air and Neighborhood and Environment Act 2005 prohibits sale of two or more cars from the roadside but only applies to traders.

Doesn't a car with a FOR SALE sign encourage nosey parkers as well as those well intentioned?
