Vauxhall Corsa D 2007 1.0 12v - CV Joint - left or right? - Xena
Tell tail clicking/knocking noise on full left lock. Which CV joint is it likely to be? Logic tells me it should be on the left as this is the joint that's being articulated the most. Please help me out here. Of course, I expect there's no way of really knowing without properly checking each side with the car raised. Left or right?

Generally you would be wrong. A worn N/S CV joint would tend to be more noisy on full right hand lock as the load is exerted on the left hand side.

Thats what MOTs are for. I would have said left.

So which one was it?

I've got £49,500 on this.

I'm with railroad on this one,

though I have to admit I had to pause and think for a bit,

So used to just driving them on full lock and pronouncing left/right that actually thinking about it I went kind off snow blind!

Weird.

And MOT's only check boot integrity,

is it secure,

does it leak?

They don't test for wear.

That's not what MOTs are for at all. It's a structured test to be carried out in a set method to ensure a vehicle meets the minimum standards required by VOSA, and does not include checking for 'noisy' CV joints.

I'd suggest that if one side has gone, the other side must be fairly worn as well - I'd replace both sides!

You'd be surprised how quiet a clicking CV joint can be after re-greasing, and how long said joint can last after, 10 minute job to do if the boot is intact.

Well done Railroad, you were correct, it was the right hand CV joint.
