This is the third generation of the Nissan Qashqai – the world's first crossover – which will go on sale in summer 2021. More than 5 million of the cars have been sold worldwide and this latest version should guarantee its popularity for years to come.
The new model gets a far bolder design than the car it replaces. Nissan’s V-Motion grille is now far more prominent and it gets slim LED headlights on either side. Factor in a sprinkling of body creases, wheels up to 20 inches in size (an inch bigger than before) and a sharper rear end, and the result is a car that looks like a Qashqai – only a lot more modern.
Get behind the wheel and you’ll find interior quality has also improved with textured plastics and flashes of chrome on show. The biggest improvements have been made to the infotainment, however. You now get a nine-inch centre screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle and a 10.3 inch head-up display. You also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (the former can be operated wirelessly), allowing you to project your phone’s screen on the car’s centre display.
Interior practicality has also been given a thorough going over. You get 15mm extra headroom in the front and the back, as well as rear doors that open 85 degrees – 15 more than before – giving you excellent access when fitting a child’s seat, for example. Rear knee room has also increased by 28mm – owing to the car’s wheelbase being 20mm longer than before.
Boot space, meanwhile, has increased by more than 50 litres – you get 540 litres in total – and it’s crammed full of handy features such as a 12V power socket, smaller storage spaces on either side of the boot, underfloor storage and a floor that has a wipe-clean side that is easy to keep clean.
In terms of engines, the new Nissan Qashqai will not only be available with a 1.3 DiG-T petrol equipped with mild hybrid technology – offering either 140 or 158PS – but it also gets Nissan's 190PS e-POWER full hybrid. You can also choose 2WD and 4WD, as well as a six-speed manual or CVT automatic gearboxes.
