Why is my Renault Laguna's windscreen developing spots?

The car is a 2007 Renault Laguna 150 DCI. The windscreen is developing spots, about 3mm in diameter, like semi-transparent watermarks which are inside the screen, perhaps between the laminate layers. They are increasing in number and now cover 30 per cent of the screen. Their effect on the view depends on the light, but they are disconcerting in fog especially. Is this a known fault and what can I do, bearing windscreen costs in mind? To make it worse the dealer I bought the car from, new, has ceased to trade.

It's a problem with the 'Athermic' screen. Should be covered by warranty, or goodwill if out of warranty.
