My insurer won't pay out for my stolen car because the MOT had expired. Is there anything I can do?

I am having problems with my insurance company. My car was stolen on 07/01/2010, so I reported this to my insurance company but they refuse to pay out as they say that there was no MOT on the car and that I made a false declaration stating that I had an MOT. At the start of the insurance policy I did have an MOT but it ran out during the middle of the insurance policy. Due to some confusion the car was not tested again, but I thought it had been, which was a genuine mistake. I have all the previous MOTs. What can I do next?

The insurer is within its rights because you failed to disclose its MOT status.
