Best small car to buy in 2017?

My mother is contemplating replacing her five year old Fiat 500 1.2 in 2017. She loves the style and character of the 500 and wants the Twinair version. If she were to get the Twinair, what spec and engine power output would you recommend? She wants more "go" as the 1.2 does struggle on even the smallest of gradients, but I think the 89PS version would suffice in such a small vehicle. Is there anything else you would suggest as an alternative?

The 90PS TwinAir is fine and lots of fun. Has the character that the 1242cc Fire engine lacks (I know, I've got one). The 105 is just a bit more powerful, perhaps too powerful for 875cc. She might want to go to a 500C with full length sunroof. But getting expensive now in comparison to other cars. Though the VW Up is boring to look at, she should try one of them because they are a lot of fun to drive. Maybe a Smart ForFour 90TCe that looks more funky than it drives. Maybe a Citroen C1 1.2 PureTech Airscape with a full length sunroof for the summer.
