Why is my 2006 Ford Focus hunting and cutting out?

My Ford Focus 2006 1.6 Zetec 115ps has an intermittent hunting/cutting out problem. It is worse when the engine is warm, especially after a a warm start. The car will not idle and when driving along at constant speed, it will kangaroo and almost feel like it is going to backfire. I have had the plugs and HT leads replaced, which appeared to rectify the issue for a period, but appeared again shortly afterward. This issue first started whist the car was still under warranty, however after numerous visits to the dealer and zero error codes we're still none the wiser. I really just want to get shot of it now, but who's going to buy a car with only 36,000 which won't idle at all?

When you say you have had this problem whilst under warranty, if it was recorded as such, I would suggest that you contact Ford UK direct and pursue them to rectify the problem. If you start to do other work outside their dealership network they will distance themselves from you.
