Buying a used KIA Sorento for towing

I am looking to get a KIA Sorento (that will mainly be a family car but can also tow a horse trailer. I know that the 03-09 model can tow the most weight but I am put off by the £490 road tax.

Also I know the models from 2010-2013 tow less but I believe the manual 2.2CRDI KX 4WD can tow 2500kg and would be a lower tax and more economical so perhaps a better bet?

The 2010-2013 Sorento with the 2.2 litre R-Type diesel and manual transmission is far better than the old Sorento 2.5 diesels. Ignore the older models. Best version: KX2 Nav manual: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/kia/kia-sorento-20.../ and www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/kia/kia-sorento-20.../
