Why doesn't my KIA Sportage's warranty cover diagnostic checks?

I bought a secondhand KIA Sportage 2.0 CRiXS Auto in April 2008 and extended the warranty in Nov 2008 for a further two years. Last week, an indicator light showing 'Malfunction' came up with the word 'CHECK'. On reading the handbook it said that the car was still OK to drive but should be taken to a KIA workshop ASAP. I went over in July 2010 and after two hours they said it was fine and I could drive away, but they gave me a bill for £84 plus VAT for carrying out a KIA Diagnostics code PO741 as advised by KIA HQ, and was told that if it persists that torque convertor replacement was advised. I explained that I had taken out an extended warranty and they said ok, but have now sent me the bill to pay as KIA will not accept the claim for diagnosis under the warranty. Before paying this bill I would like your views.

Diagnosis is not covered by the warranty; only repairs, and in your case no repair was deemed necessary. Seems unfair, but that's the way it is.
