Problem with car bought 2 months ago

Hi HJ, let me know your favourite charity and I'll bung a few quid if you can advise me. Bought a Volvo S40 1.6D, Dec 07 model, 38k miles from an Evans Halshaw (Pendragon) site in Cheltenham 31-8-11. Have done 5k miles in 2 mths. Today suddenly get warning 'Anti-skid service required' and 'Engine performance reduced'. Sluggishly home, then re-started, all fine now apparently, full power again, warnings gone. Searched Volvo forum, apparently the anti skid warning often means failure of an ABS 'brake unit' which goes so often that Volvo often cough up the £1300 for replacement. What to do? I really want the local Volvo dealer to plug in and see if the warnings / problems are there, but I can imagine Pendragon will say bring back 60 miles to them first. I don't trust them though, as car was sold on basis of 'its just been serviced, stamped by them' but turns out that big 37k service requirements (like re-filling the dreaded dpf reservoir) was ignored and they literally just changed the oil (according to the service dept). Help! Would like P to pay for diagnosis at Volvo dealer, really want to pin down whether there's a problem or not, as I've only owned it 2 months. Cheers, all best, J in Bristol

The anti skid warning will be failure of the brake pressure sensor in the ATE Teves Mk 60 ABS/ESP module. There is a fix available for about £350 from www.ecutesting.co.uk but you have to add the cost of removing and refitting. This is, of course, down to the dealer who sold you the car. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ If you take it to a Volvo dealer to have the ECU interrogated and the Eolys DPF fluid level checked you will have to pay for that. But Pendragon will have to pay for the rectification work.
