Looking to buy a car for about £3000 / £3500 with a low insurance group...

I am looking to buy a car for about £3000 / £3500 I need to find a car with a low insurance group 1 - 4. I don't have any no claims history in last 5 years after surviving a head on collision back in 2010 August. Please could you advise what car I need to look out for Japanese or German is my preferred choice Toyota , VW etc.

I have been quoted £750 - £1000 which seems extreme looking to budget in no more than £500 fully comp if possible...

Insurance groups are now 1 - 50, not 1 - 20. I'd be looking for a Toyota Yaris 1.3 2005 - 2010.
