Got a parking ticket on Boxing Day - can this be right?

I have been issued a parking ticket on 26th Dec 2016 (Boxing Day) as I parked on the the curve opposite my house to allow other vehicles to pass through easier.

It is an offence to drive on the footway. Some councils turn a blind eye; others don't.
