What's the best used estate for £5k?

We've got £2000-£5000 to spend on a used estate with a reasonable sized boot. We're not bothered about brand as long as it is reliable and has decent amounts of equipment. Ideally, we want an automatic gearbox, cruise control, leather seats and a nice quiet ride. Diesel or petrol is fine.

Any advice on what would be best to buy?

Your money will go furthest in a Ford Mondeo and the top spec models with the 2.5 V6 engine were very nice cars: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/mondeo-iii-2000/
