Why does my V5 show two previous owners when there should only be one?

I bought a Vauxhall Corsa from a car supermarket in the summer. It was advertised as having one previous owner, which was confirmed by the salesman and stated on the invoice.

However, on receiving the V5 certificate, it states that there has in fact been two previous owners. This will obviously impact the resale price. What level of compensation would be reasonable?

When you bought the car there was one previous owner and one on the V5C. After your name was added to the V5C there were then two previous owners.
