Are run flat tyres worth the expense?
I am looking to replace my 2004 Ford Mondeo with a new estate car. I have looked at Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series amongst others. A problem with the BMW is that they only come with run flat tyres.
I fear that the ride will be worse and the tyres more expensive to replace, wear faster and are not easily repaired/renewed in an emergency. Can you comment on the merits/demerits of these type of tyres?

Runflats are not a "problem". They could save your life. Two people have been killed on motorway hard shoulders in the last month. I once very nearly was too. But if buying a car on runflats, get it on the deepest profile runflats available. 55s rather than 45s or 40s.
