What should I replace my Volkswagen Phaeton with?

After running two 3.0Tdi Phaetons, the lease deals that attracted me are no longer available. I have loved running the Phaetons but the time has come to change. I have considered leasing a Volkswagen Passat CC but found the ride to be very poor, despite the rest of the car being very appealing. I like to be a little different and drive cars other than the norm, and am also considering purchasing secondhand instead of leasing. What are your thoughts on a two or three-year-old Honda Legend or a four or five-year-old Mercedes-Benz 500CL? I guess that potential future big bills could put me off the Merc.

Legends are cheap used for what they are. One went through in one of my recent auction reports. But, of course, if something goes wrong it could be time consuming and expensive to fix. Things are far less likely to go wrong with the complex electronics of a Japanese car than a German car. Why not add a Lexus GS450h to your list?

I have up to £6500 to buy a car. I am in my mid-50s and cover 15,000 miles a year. I'd like a car with a good drive, lots of everyday comfort and decent refinement. I'd like an Audi or BMW. Any thoughts?
