Should I change the runflats for conventional tyres on my 3 Series Tourer?

Do you think it would be worthwhile spending about £300 for normal type tyres to replace the current run-flat equivalents on a BMW 3 Series Tourer in an endeavour to obtain a softer ride? We are now in our eighties and are beginning to feel the bumps, not made any easier by the current state of the roads. We are most loath to change the car. Apart from the ride, it is superb and tows a caravan almost without effort. The current tyres are 205/55R on 16-inch wheels.

You will get a slight improvement, but then you will lose the benefit of runflats and will need to buy a spare wheel. Imagine being stuck on the hard shoulder of a motorway with a flat tyre and a caravan behind the car. Having been within inches of getting killed on a motorway hard shoulder while changing a wheel, this is something I never, ever intend to do again.
