How do I check whether transportation blocks have been left in my Ford Focus' coil springs?

In a recent letters page, under the heading "Hard Luck" you suggest that GT of Derby checks to see if the transportation blocks have been left in his car’s springs. How do you check these? Our Ford Focus S jars my spine on every pot hole that we go over.

Take a look at the coil springs and see if there are any clamps on them. The jarring of your Focus is more likely to be due to the wheels and tyres. It’s softest on 195/65 R15s and hardest on 225/40 R18s.
