Should I call Suzuki before my insurers in the event of an accident?

Having just bought a newish Suzuki I am advised in the case of an accident to call Suzuki before my insurers. Is this a good idea or will my insurance be upset?

If the car is repaired by anyone other than a Suzuki approved repairer you will lose any remaining warranty on the body structure. But do not sign anything that commits you to pay for an overpriced hire car while yours is being fixed if the insurers refuse to pay for it.
