Which comfortable, petrol-engined manual car to replace our Rover 75?

We are about to dispose of our treasured Rover 75 and downsize. We're thinking of replacing it with a Vauxhall Astra or similar. As we are in our 70s comfort as well as economy is important and we would prefer petrol and manual. Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd be looking for something more upright than an Astra, such as a Ford B-Max, Vauxhall Meriva, Hyundai ix20 or KIA Venga,.
