Which tourer or small MPV?

We would like to replace our 2002 Rover 75 Tourer diesel with a tourer or a small MPV. The Rover suits us well, but we'd prefer something physically smaller which is comfortable and reliable. It will be used mainly for short urban runs, but it must be able to tackle long-distance driving and motorways too. Presumably this suggests a return to petrol.

Our shortlist includes the Skoda Octavia, the Volvo V50 estate and the Volkswagen Touran. Our budget is £15,000 plus whatever I can get for the Rover. Have you any further suggestions?

If the Rover 75 is in good condition with a low mileage, I think you'll find that used values are starting to level out. There is a lot of enthusiasm for this modern classic.

A Hyundai i30 estate is worth considering. There's no need to buy secondhand and you get a five-year warranty. The equivalent KIA cee'd Sportswagon is only available as a diesel and is more expensive. Or you could 'buy British' and get a new 48mpg Honda Civic 1.8iSE, but you may need to negotiate on the price: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/honda/honda-civic-.../
