BMW X3 or VW Toureg for long distance driving?

We'd like to buy either a Volkswagen Touareg Auto Altitude or a new style BMW X3 Auto, the latter looking to be cheaper to run. Have you any opinions on these two vehicles please? We are looking for a large vehicle with lots of capacity for luggage and which is capable of long distance driving.

The BMW F25 X3 is all you need. It's quite big, yet still does very well with the 2.0-litre diesel engine. We had 130mph out of it on special winter tyres. Our 1000-mile Innsbruck to Farnborough test drive is here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/bmw/bmw-x3-f25-201.../

They also hold their value very well: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/auctions/2012-08/car-auc.../
