Which medium-sized car would you recommend for a 70-mile daily commute including motorways?

I'm looking at buying a medium-sized car either new or a couple of years old. I travel 70 miles per day (half on motorway). I'm currently driving an Audi A4 1.9TDI, so I want something that can accelerate and overtake easily. Ideally I'm looking at £12,000 maximum. I'm not badge sensitive so will consider anything from Hyundai i30, Toyota Auris, Seat Leon to BMW 1 Series. What would you recommend?

For value for money combined with a strong engine, I'd suggest looking at a diesel SEAT Leon. The 2.0 TDI is an excellent engine with plenty of torque, so overtaking is easy. It's also a good looking and well built car that's well suited to the motorway. It may not have the image of a BMW 1 Series but you'll get more car for your money.
